Preparation of polymers comprises pre-treating a polymerizing monomer solution with electromagnetic radiation, after reaching the maximum polymerization temperature, where the obtained gel is reduced in size and dried. An independent claim is also included for a water-soluble or water-dilutable polymers obtained by the process.
