The invention relates to a self adhesive gel matrix, in particular a polyacrylic acid-based monolithic gel matrix, which contains polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) as the cross-linking agent. The gel matrix can be doped with hydrophilic active ingredients, or also hydrophobic active ingredients if a suitable solutizer is present, for the cosmetic and/or pharmaceutical treatment of the skin, or for the systematic administration of medicaments. The parameters PVP concentration and PVP molecular weight are used in a targeted manner to produce gel matrices, whose tackiness, cohesive strength and viscosity can be individually modified to suit the area of application, for example when used as a transdermal system.
