Novel reactivities of iodosylbenzene in the catalytic oxygenation of olefins

Oxygenation of (carbonyl)osmium porphyrins provides trans -dioxoosmium(VI) porphyrins, which catalyze the reaction of olefins with iodosylarenes. The main reaction pathway is oxidative double bond cleavage, presumably through a hepta-coordinated osmium intermediate. Iodosylbenzene was also discovered to be an excellent initiator for the aerobic epoxidation of olefins in the presence of aldehydes under very mild reaction conditions.
