Weave examined,oth experimentally (usingullyontrolled disturbances)ndheoretically,he weakly-nonlinear developmenttagesfnsteady (in general) Gortler instabilityfoundary layerveroncaveurface. Primaryttention was giveno earlyanifestationsf nonlinearity inhe developmentfnsteady Gortler vorticeselongingoheirst,ostapidly growing,ode inhe discretepectrumfhetability problem. Weave investigatedheanifestationsf instability versusherequencyfheundamental (primary) Gortlerodendhe initial disturbancemplitude.he weakly-nonlineartagef developmentfnsteady Gortler vortices wasoundo displayheollowingharacteristiceatures: (a) nonlinear interactionmongheombinationodes inherequency-wavenumberpectrum, (b) distortionfhe wall-normal profilesf disturbancemplitudesnd phases, (c)eductionfhe growthatefheundamental Gortlerodendheajorityfombinationodes,nd (d) decrease inhe phase velocitiesfnsteady disturbances. It wasoundhathe disturbances enterheegionf weakly-nonlinear developmentfterhemplitudefheundamentalrequency-wavenumberodeeacheshresholdf 4–6 %,his valueeinguch greaterhanhatorollmien —chlichting waves (1–2 %)utignificantly lowerhanhatorheross-flow instabilityodes inhree-dimensionaloundary layer (morehan 10 %).
