Synthesis, Epr, Electronic and Magnetic Studies on Cobalt(II) Complexes of a Semicarbazone and Thiosemicarbazone

Cobalt(II) complexes of the general composition [Co(L1)2X2] (X = ;Br or CH3COO), [Co(L1)2X]X (X = NCS or NO3) and [Co(L1)2]SO4where L1is pmethylacetophenone semicarbazone) and [Co(L2)2X]X (X = Cl, Br, I, NCS or CH3COO), [Co(L2)2](NO3)2and [Co(L2)2SO4]where L2is pmethylacetophenone thiosemicarbazone have been synthesized. All of the complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses, magnetic moments, IR, electronic and EPR spectral studies. All the complexes were found to have magnetic moments corresponding to three unpaired electrons. The possible geometries of the complexes were assigned on the basis of electronic, infrared and EPR spectral studies.
