Several isomeric hydroxycyclopentanone and dihydroxycyclopentane derivatives were obtained from the reduction of ethyl 3,3-dimethyl-2,4-dioxocyclopentanecarboxylate. The relative configurations of the isomers were determined by spectroscopic and chemical methods.
