THE molecular identity of the receptor for antigen on T cells is so far only partially defined in that the variable region of the immunoglobulin (Ig) heavy chain is involved in its specificity-determining portion. All other parts of the receptor structure are at present only negatively defined: no variable region of an Ig light chain seems to be present, and the putative constant portions lack conventional immunoglobulin constant region determinants.
