Abstract In touch receptor cells of the nematode, two channel subunits of the DEG/ENaC family have long been thought to carry out mechanotransduction. New work shows that these channel subunits are responsible for events that occur within 50 milliseconds of transduction, and may be the transduction channel subunits themselves.
