FIELD: flat displays, optical modulators, matrix systems of light modulation. SUBSTANCE: device has liquid- crystal layer which is located between first and second plates with electrodes, polarizing and orienting layers, which are located on inner sides of plates. Polarizing cover consists of layer of organic paint which has anisotropic absorbing capacity and provides generation of liquid-crystal phase. Inner sides of plates are covered with diffuse reflecting layer which simultaneously serves as electrode, double refraction layer, which may cover both plates or only second plate, layer of color elements which is located between polarizing layer and plate. Polarizing cover may have polarizing elements which differ in color and/or direction of polarization axis. EFFECT: increased quality, manufacturing of reflecting LCD indicator and super-twist indicator which optical layers are located on inner sides of plates. 17 cl, 6 dwg
