The use of micro and nano particles in capillary electrophoresis for high performance separations

The use of a magnetic particle(MP)was investigated to make a packed capillary for chiral separation by capillary electrochromatography(CEC).An avidin coated MP,prepared by the layer-by-layer deposition method, was retained in the capillary by applying the magnetic field even under a high applied voltage for the CEC separation,so that the fritless packed capillary for CEC could be easily prepared and the length of the packed MP zone also be easily adjusted by changing the magnet length.As a result,the chiral separation of ketoprofen was successfully achieved.Effects of several parameters,e.g.,the condition of modification,pH,and packing length,on the enantioseparation will be discussed.Under an optimal condition the repeatability for the retention time was better than 1.5% in RSD and the capillary-to-capillary reproducibility was also acceptable in the prepared fritless capillary.
