An enteric medicament which comprises a drug protected from the gastric environment by a coating of a partial ester of a copolymer selected from the group consisting of the poly(olefin-maleic anhydride)s wherein the olefin moiety contains from 2 to 20 carbon atoms and the poly(vinyl alkyl ether-maleic anhydride)s wherein the alkyl group contains from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, said partial ester being water soluble at a pH greater than about 3.5.
