The thyroid glands were completely removed from twelve adult rabbits which were killed at periods varying from 10 to 179 days after the operation. The hypophyses were weighed after death, and found to be distinctly heavier than in control animals. The increase in weight appears to run parallel with the time that intervenes between thyroidectomy and the death of the animal. After an interval of 179 days (six months) the pituitary had increased to about three times the normal size.
