A Theoretical Model of a Wave Packet in the Boundary Layer on a Flat Plate

It is the objective of the reported investigation to construct a linear model of the wave packet in a form which is suitable for a comparison with experimental data obtained by Gaster and Grant (1975). Asymptotic methods are avoided in the investigation by employing a direct numerical summation scheme. The procedure used in the analysis is discussed along with details concerning the calculation of the eigenvalues. Attention is given to power spectral densities and the simulated wave packet. It is found that the linear model packet provides reasonable estimates of the overall shape of the disturbed region.
