This paper sums up the key technology and developing trend of gas atomized spherical metal powder for 3D printing. It clarifies that the combination properties of powder(appearance, particle-size, productivity, etc.)depend on the atomizer structure, atomization medium and molten metal. The producing powder technology such as plasma rotating electrode atomization, plasma torch atomization, no crucible electrode induction melt atomization will become mainstream methods of producing spherical metal powder for 3D printing.
