Heavy meromyosin-binding filaments were identified in the mitotic apparatus of dividing mouse neuroblastoma cells. Some filaments were arranged parallel to mitotic microtubules, but most appeared randomly oriented between the centriolar regions and chromosomes. The origin of these mitotic micro-filaments is suggested to be a cytoplasmic pool of microfilaments or components created during morphological dedifferentiation preceding cell division.
