Studies of depressive symptoms in schizophrenia
摘要:
In Exp I, depression (assessed by clinical examination and the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression) was found in half of the 37 17–65 yr old untreated newly acute schizophrenics and in approximately one-third of the chronic schizophrenics who relapsed whether treated with depot injections or not, indicating that depressive illness in these Ss was not drug-related. In Exp II, a study of 30 19–63 yr old schizophrenics over a 2-yr period confirmed the frequency of depressive symptoms during both acute relapse and remission while on depot neuroleptic maintenance therapy. Results of a 3rd study with 40 19–60 yr old depressed schizophrenics who received 100 mg/day of orphenadrine show a nonsignificant number of Ss whose depression improved on orphenadrine. In Exp IV, 50 18–62 yr old schizophrenics, maintained in remission and free from extrapyramidal signs on regular depot neuroleptic injections and who developed an acute episode of depression, were treated for 5 wks with nortriptyline or placebo that was blindly allotted. No significant difference in alleviation of depression emerged. (53 ref) (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2012 APA, all rights reserved)
