Most pediatricians are familiar with nontuberculous mycobacteria as causes of cervical lymphadenitis, but few have had experience with these organisms as causes of skin and subcutaneous infections. Two general reviews of nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infections in children state that skin infections are rare,1-2 and case reports involving children are not in pediatric journals. The following report highlights the features of these unusual infections in order to increase awareness among physicians who care for children.
