KETAMINE HYDROCHLORIDE FOR PEDIATRIC PREMEDICATION
摘要:
Memory of unpleasant operating-room experiences was prevented in 90 percent of 60 children through premedication by 2.5 mg./kg. of ketamine and in only 10 percent of 60 children given pentazocine premedication. The presence of a parent during induction was found not to be beneficial with either drug. Drawbacks to the use of ketamine for pediatric premedication are (1) the need for an anesthesiologist or other responsible person to remain with the child to cope with untoward effects of the drug; (2) marked postoperative restlessness; and (3) a high incidence of postoperative vomiting.
