摘要:

The performance of carbon fiber reinforced polymeric composites depends not only on properties of fibers and matrices, but also on the interface between them. The good interfacial adhesion characteristics improve the load transfer from the fibers into matrix and assure good structural integrity of the whole composite. The corona surface treatment process has been widely used industrially to modify polymeric material surfaces. However, there has been very little work reported on this issue when referring to carbon fiber surface. This work describes the corona discharge process developed at Centro Técnico Aeroespacial and Universidade Estadual de Campinas, to be used in industrial process of carbon fiber production. The chemical characterization of the carbon fibers treated by corona process, is obtained using infrared spectroscopy (IR) and Auger spectroscopy techniques (AES). The physical aspect of the filaments are determined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).The fibers surface chemical characteristics such as: contact angle; surface free energy and its components, dispersive and polar; and work of adhesion are determined and related to the used conditions of the corona process. The mechanical evaluation of the carbon fibers is performed by using pull-out technique and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and four-point bending from the carbon fiber/polyester composites samples. Finally, is verified the adhesive performance and obtained the correlation between mechanical and thermodynamics characteristics ofthe carbon fibers samples
