Pyrolysis and gasification of fossil fuels, biomass materials and wastes have used formany years to convert organic solids and liquids into a range of useful productsgaseous, liquid and cleaner solid fuels. More than 500 gasifiers or pyrolysers arecurrently in operation. Most of these are very small. However, the Juniper Report1details 110 pyrolysis and gasification plants currently operating at industrial scale in 22 countries, processing a wide variety of waste and biomass materials.
