Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a progressive disease characterised by declining pancreatic β cell func- tion and insulin action. The component of insulin resistant is found in more than 90% of T2DM patients. These processes begin years before diabetes is diagnosed, and accelerated by environ- mental factors leading to excess expossure to hyperglycemia.
