Obstructive lung disease can be defined simply as an intermittent or permanent increase of bronchial resistance. Patients with this disease complain of dyspnea and a more or less productive cough. The underlying affection can be chronic bronchitis, destructive pulmonary emphysema, bronchial asthma, or bronchiectasis, all of which often occur in various combinations.
