The broad purpose of the article is to arouse interest among psychologists in studies of economic behavior. The specific goal of the paper is to make a thorough examination of the economic principle of rationality. For this purpose, the most common forms of methodologies in both psychology and economics are contrasted and a general discussion of the role of empirical research in the social sciences is presented. 17 references.
