Polarimetric Parameter for Detection of Double-Bounce Scattering Dominated Areas
摘要:
Target backscatter of electromagnetic waves can be characterized by scattering mechanisms, scattering depolarization, and backscattered intensity. Backscatter from natural areas is often reflection symmetric, and backscatter from complex geometric structures often reflection asymmetric. Reflection asymmetry is represented by helix scattering, and mostly occurs in areas with strong double-bounce backscattering. By theoretically exploring the relationship between the co-polarization ratio, target helicity and the polarization coherence, a rotation-invariant parameter is analyzed for identifying targets with dominant double-bounce scattering. Experiments show the effectiveness of the parameter for urban pixel detection and that target helicity can help in distinguishing man-made buildings.
