Modification of the surfaces of Wyoming montmorillonite by the cationic surfactants alkyl trimethyl, dialkyl dimethyl, and trialkyl methyl ammonium bromides

Surfaces of a Wyoming SWy-2 sodium montmorillonite were modified through intercalation using microwave radiation and adsorption of the cationic surfactants octadecyltrimethylammonium bromide, dimethyldioctadecylammonium bromide, and methyltrioctadecylammonium bromide. Different configurations of surfactants within montmorillonite interlayer are proposed based on d ( 001 ) basal spacings.
