Adipose Tissue Resistin Expression Is Severely Suppressed in Obesity and Stimulated by Peroxisome Proliferator-activated Receptor γ Agonists

Elevated levels of the hormone , which is secreted by fat , are proposed to cause resistance and to serve as a link between and . In this report we show that expression is significantly decreased in the white adipose tissue of several different models of including the ob/ob, db/db, tub/tub, and KKA(y) compared with their lean counterparts. Furthermore, in response to several different classes of antidiabetic agonists, adipose tissue expression is increased in both ob/ob and Zucker diabetic fatty . These data demonstrate that experimental in is associated with severely defective expression, and decreases in expression are not required for the antidiabetic actions of agonists.
