Autoimmune reactions and virus-like particles in germ-free NZB mice.
摘要:
Autoimmune reactions, as shown by positive antiglobulin (Coombs) tests and the presence of antinuclear factors in the serum, occur in NZB mice bred and maintained in a germ-free environment. Serum-immunoglobulin levels are unaltered despite this isolation from exogenous antigenic stimuli. Particles resembling murine-leukæmia virus are found in germ-free NZB mice as in their conventional counterparts indicating transmission via the germ cells or placenta. The presence of virus-like particles might be associated with maintenance of serum-immunoglobulin levels and the development of autoimmune reactions; but more positive evidence is needed before this association can be regarded as more than fortuitous.
