Controls on arsenate, molybdate, and selenate uptake by hydrotalcite-like layered double hydroxides

As(V) has the strongest affinity for HT-LDHs varying in the order As(V)>Mo(VI)>Se(VI).HT-LDHs composed of Fe3+ vs. Al3+ and multiple interlayer anions are better scavengers.The presence of competitive anions and alkaline pH negatively influences sorbate uptake.Sorbates partly incorporate into HT-LDHs interlayer; Se(VI) better than As(V)/Mo(VI).As(V) undergoes strong chemical binding with HT-LDH Fe(III) unlike Mo(VI) and Se(VI).
