Response of the Female Southern Green Stink Bug and Its Parasite, Trichopoda pennipes, to Male Stink Bug Pheromones
摘要:
The following is virtually the authors' abstract. Data from laboratory and field studies in Hawaii in 1969 indicated that males of (L.) produce a pheromone that is highly attractive to females of the same species and to both sexes (especially the females) of the introduced Tachinid parasite (F.) [A 55 2275, etc.]. Laboratory studies with a Y-tube olfactometer showed that 60% of virgin female bugs responded to males within one hour. Virgin females released in large field cages were attracted to confined unmated males. Sticky-board traps with males as the attractant were set up in the field and captured 1 male and 4 females of and 14 males and 113 females of the Tachinid within 12-13 days. Dissection of the trapped females indicated that those of were young and had not mated, while those of the Tachinid had mated. Female bugs, copulating pairs and fifth-instar nymphs were not so attractive to the parasite females as adult male bugs. Field collections showed that male bugs bore a significantly higher number of parasite eggs. Parasitism in two areas was 72.1 and 68.1% for male bugs and 68.1 and 38.5% for females.
