In this issue of the Journal appears the first in our Current Concepts series on cancer. In the coming articles emphasis will be primarily on management — surgical, chemotherapeutic and radiotherapeutic — although diagnosis will not be overlooked. Our contributors will describe present status of therapy in some neoplastic diseases, emphasizing recent progress, where it exists, and admitting uncertainty of effectiveness in other settings. Previews of some newer therapeutic approaches will also be described. Treatment, however, is only as good as the diagnosis, and it is the patient's own physician, not the cancer specialist, who must first consider the possibility . . .
