Strong Isotope Effects in the Infrared Spectrum of the Zundel Cation

Increasing the mass makes a mess: Partial or total deuteration of the protonated water dimer drastically alters its vibrations. Coupling between certain vibrational modes is strongly enhanced, whereas other modes are decoupled.
