Diagnosis of cancer, I identified as a therapeutic target and newly diagnosed in the treatment and prognosis, low molecular weight protein tyrosine phosphatase (LMW-PTP). And LMW-PTP, optionally, the invention provides methods of diagnosis and treatment useful in the context of cancer expressing EphA2 receptor. It also provides a screening method that utilizes the change of the amount and the activity of the LMW-PTP and / or in order to identify the cancer therapeutic agents of candidates to be targeted to enable the oncogenic protein EphA2.
