A convenient, low-cost synthesis of dipotassium cyclooctatetraenide, KCH, from 1,5-cyclooctadiene and potassium has been developed which provides for more extensive use of the cyclooctatetraenyl dianion in both organic and organometallic chemistry. The details of KCH preparation and its conversion to 1,3,5,7-cyclooctatetraene, (1,3,5,7-CH), 9-phenyl-9-phosphabicyclo (4.2.1) nonatriene (CHPCH) and uranocene (U(CH)) are presented. 28 references.
