Zinc erythromycin is prepared by reacting zinc salts, especially zinc carboxylates, with an erythromycin. Compositions containing zinc erythromycin are useful for the topical treatment of acne. The compositions are preferably free of water and of ethanol and comprise a balance of a pharmaceutically-acceptable topical carrier.
